Charles Ingalls, his wife Caroline and their three daughters Mary, Laura, and Carrie live on a farm in the town of Walnut Grove in Minnesota, and that is not always easy. Charles built the house all by himself. They want to lead an independent life, but the Ingalls family struggles with poor harvests, debts, and natural disasters. Fortunately, they get help from Charles' best friend, Isaiah Edwards. Charles is very handy and finds work at the sawmill of Walnut Grove's founder, Lars Hanson, who eventually becomes a good friend of the family. Every day, Mary, Laura, and Carrie walk miles to school and always go to church on Sundays. The sisters are very close and often stand up for each other, especially against the wealthy but spoiled Nellie Oleson. The Oleson family causes a lot of problems in the village with Harriet as the gossip and her daughter Nellie, who often bullies and tries to humiliate Laura. Laura has a strong personality and a great sense of justice, just like her father Charles. She is adventurous and always stands up for the weak. Her sister Mary values a good education and has a heart of gold. The bond between the family members and their perseverance deeply touches many viewers. Caroline and Charles teach their children to respect others. 'Little House on the Prairie' shows the importance of hard work and community. This nostalgic family series is based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and was directed by Michael Landon, who also plays the role of Charles Ingalls. Melissa Gilbert plays Laura Ingalls, with Melissa Sue Anderson as Mary and the twins Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush as Carrie.
