Just before Christmas Mandie Shaw is sent to boarding school. Once there she has trouble adjusting to the strict rules enforced by the stern head mistress Miss Heathwood, who does not care for Christmas. One of the many rules involves staying away from the attic. But when strange noises seem to come from the top floor, Mandie decides to break the rule so she can satisfy her curiosity.
