Grace is a Christian history teacher. When one of her students, Brooke, struggles to deal with the sudden death of her brother, she starts reading the Bible. And in a following history lesson about Ghandi and Martin Luther Kind Jr., she asks Grace the question whether their teachings have a foundation in the Bible. Grace's honest answer to this is: yes. When the school board hears of this talk, they call Grace with them and tell her they're going to pursue legal actions as she has violated the "seperation of church and state". This case draws the attention of lawyer Tom Endler who decides to take on Grace's case, leading Grace into an epic lawsuit that could cost her her career and ban God from classrooms.
