After her father abandoned her as a baby, Luka is being raised by her aunt and uncle. When her aunt passes away from breastcancer, Luka tries to get in contact with her estranged father again. In the meantime, the local priest assigns Luka to an elderly home to read to the people after she stole some money, and builds a relationship with a grumpy old man who rather tells her stories about his life than listens to the stories from the book. And where Luka is missing a female role model in her life, she may have found one in the local nurse. All these lifes intertwining, and all having to deal with their own problems. And just when everything seems to improve, a dark figure from the past threatens to take it all away again.
