The Royal Bake-Off is a romantic feel-good film where baking, royal romance and rivalry in the kitchen come together. Allie has taken over her grandmother’s cosy pastry shop. What is pure passion for her turns out to be a major challenge in business terms: the bakery is not doing well, and the competition from the modern shop owned by her former best friend Marily is fierce.
When Prince James of Samavia comes to the town for his brother’s coronation ceremony, everything changes. For the ceremony, he is looking for the best pastry chef to create an impressive, royal cake. Both Allie and Marily are selected for this prestigious assignment, which could make or break their careers. To decide who gets the crown commission, Prince James organises an exciting baking competition: a real royal bake-off between the two competing patisseries.
While Allie throws herself into the competition to keep her grandmother’s dream alive, she discovers that more is at stake than just a title and a cake. Behind Prince James’s formal exterior lies a warm, humorous man who understands her passion for baking. During the various rounds of the baking competition – full of sweet creations, spectacular cakes and gentle, homely moments – Allie and James grow closer and closer. The film thus offers both the cosy atmosphere of baking shows like Heel Holland Bakt or The Great British Bake Off and the enchanting charm of a modern fairy tale about falling for a prince.
The Royal Bake-Off combines two beloved romantic subgenres: “baking romance” and “royal romance.” The bakery setting provides a warm, snug atmosphere full of pastries, family memories and nostalgia. The royal angle, with Allie developing feelings for Prince James, taps into the timeless fantasy of marrying a prince – but moved into the real world, making the story feel extra relatable and compelling.
In the leading role of Allie we see American actress Ansley Gordon, known from romantic films such as Baked with a Kiss, The Single’s Guidebook, Love on Retreat, Love on the Reef, A Perfect Christmas Pairing, A Christmas Frequency, The Boyfriend Trap and The Abbigail Mysteries. British actor Christian Howard plays the charming Prince James. He previously appeared in the romantic films Novel Love (Love Off the Page) and Stepping into Love, and in addition to being an actor he is also a writer and stuntman. The role of rival Marily is played by Hannah Brantley, known from Love’s Playlist and The Wedding Wish.
The screenplay of The Royal Bake-Off was written by screenwriter Rita Lobo. The film is directed by the Argentinian duo Bruno Hernandez and Damian Romay. Hernandez previously worked as director, producer and writer on romantic titles such as The Marry Me Pact, The Love Gala, The Love Advisor and Love Marks the Spot. Romay, also a director, producer and writer, is known for, among others, A Royal Make Over, The Marry Me Pact, Falling for the Manny, The Love Gala, Learning to Love, The Love Advisor, Love Marks the Spot, Let Love Grow, Stepping Into Love, The Wedding Wish, The Charm of Love, The Single’s Guidebook, Our Take on Love, Love Afloat and Love Map.
