Discover the profound stories of courage and resilience in the documentary '80 Years of Liberation'. This poignant film highlights six unforgettable stories of residents from the municipality of Nijkerk. Three of them are eyewitnesses of the Second World War, while the other three are veterans who participated in more modern military missions. With openness, they share their experiences of the impactful moments that have permanently shaped their lives. In 2025, we commemorate that the Netherlands was liberated by the Allies eighty years ago. Since then, we have lived in freedom, a gift that is not yet taken for granted worldwide. The stories of Nijkerk, Nijkerkerveen, and Hoevelaken show that the impact of war is never far away and is still felt, even by younger generations. This documentary was made possible by the collaboration of Historisch Hoeflake, the Oranjecomité Nijkerkerveen, Museum Nijkerk, the Libraries of Nijkerk, and Job van der Mark and Maranke Pater of De Stad Nijkerk. Directed by Olaf Koelewijn, '80 Years of Liberation' offers a powerful reminder of how precious freedom is and why it is important to protect and commemorate it. This masterpiece calls for reflection in a time when war remains a current threat.
