In 1936, 51 young student-missionaries travel to the Spanish city of Barbastro (Huesca) to serve the Lord, unaware of the impending tragedy. Set at the onset of the Spanish Civil War, it's a period marked by intense political and religious unrest. Though they are prepared physically and spiritually for their mission, nothing could have prepared them for the challenges ahead. During this time, Spanish anarchists are determined to eliminate spiritual leaders and religious figures, viewing the Church as part of the established order and thus an enemy of the revolution. As tensions rise, one student senses the imminent danger, fearing they will become the next target. Uncertain of his faith and strength to fight a battle of life and death, he remains steadfast. The missionaries are eventually captured and imprisoned in a clergy-specific jail. Amidst uncertainty and fear, they prepare in faith for their final journey—heavenward, with Jesus. Their faith is tested to the extreme when confronted with torture, betrayal, and the choice to renounce their beliefs or remain faithful to Christ, even unto death. Forbidden God is a poignant tribute to their courage, dedication, and martyrdom.
