Oklahoma, 1887. Tragedy seems to follow Nakomay Lee everywhere she goes. The native American girl has lost everything she ever had, both her home and her family. After her sister gets killed, Nakomay finds shelter with the compassionate Nelson family. Ethel, her father and her brother receive Nakomay with open arms and soon Ethel and Nakomay bond over their shared losses. In the meantime, Benjamin develops a fondness for the beautiful and intelligent Nakomay. But just when she really starts to settle down and can slowly enjoy her newfound happiness, all the troubles from her past are trying to take everything away from her - again. But despite the fear and sadness she lives with, she learns to move on in life, through the love and faith her new foster family teaches her.
